In 2008 the Community Adult Learning
Program (dedicated to adult literacy) and the Community Access
Program (dedicated to basic computer training and services), both
housed under the Department of Post Secondary Education, Training
and Labour were integrated into one program. Renamed The Community
Adult Learning Network (CALNet), this integrated network focuses on
quality of adult learning services, including computer training,
literacy training and workplace training.
With committed provincial funding CALNet offers adult literacy
classes and computer training in co-located sites where possible
with a long-term vision of a region full-service Adult Learning
Centre in each region. This full service centre will house other
government services and key regional partners with a goal of
providing a “one stop shop” to adults interested in pursuing
education and training.
CALNet Centres will have a Regional Committee which will be the
employer of all Centre staff and provide a regional voice for
regional matters that need to be addressed.
